Wondered Things about Aromatherapy

Scents not only enhance life, but also heal. The energy given by scents has positive effects on the body and mind. Known as aromatherapy and dating back almost 6000 years, it is a kind of preventive medicine method based on healing through scents. We can define aromatherapy briefly as healing the body and mind through essential oils naturally derived from various parts of plants.

Distilled from the stem, root, leaf, fruit and flower of the plants, these essential oils with fragrances help balance by stimulating the body and mind. The scents play an important role in our lives. We remember through scents, feel happy through scents, get inspired by scents, and activate our subconscious mind through scents. Being a traditional treatment method that is also called as scent therapy,  aromatherapy is preferred by many people due to its healing and relaxing effect.

We know that scent is an extremely strong brain stimulator. Some Japanese companies utilize aromatherapy, thinking that organic scents emitted from plants would have a positive effect on employees. For example, they use herbal essential fragrances in the ventilation systems of their companies. They found out that especially stimulating and refreshing essences, such as rosemary and lemon, increase the productivity of employees.

It is a fact that scents increase energy, make it easier to adapt to life and calming capability. It is also known that aromatherapy decreases stress levels, acts as an antidepressant in some way, supports the treatment provided by modern medicine, relieves pain and makes you feel good. There are a number of details , tricks and key points that should be known in the world of aromatherapy. Every plant has a different scent and every scent has a different function.

For example, plants such as lavender, sandalwood, cedar and marjoram are used for a deep sleep; herbs such as orange, bergamot, ylang ylang, frankincense are used to relieve stress and anxiety; herbs such as pine, basil, rosemary and peppermint are used to relieve headaches and eliminate concentration problems; plants such as sage and holy basil are used to relieve fatigue and weakness.

The best-known and most practical aromatherapy to be applied at home is to add herbal oils in the bath water. 10-15 drops of herbal oils to be dropped into the bath water have a calming and relaxing effect in the body and mind. Essential oils added into bath water, essential oils massaged into the skin and essential oils inhaled through cosmetic products such as soap, lotion, shampoo are used as alternative aromatherapy methods.

In addition, it is very important to use essential oils obtained from known and reliable sources for aromatherapy. If you are going to seek help from an aromatherapist, you should make sure that s/he is experienced and professional. And most importantly, you should consult a physician and get approval before aromatherapy treatment.
