Recipe for Trilece - A Balkan Delicacy

What is Trilece and Where Did It Originate In?

Trilece is a dessert originated in Balkans, and it has a history that dates back to a long time ago. Trilece is an extremely simple to make dessert that anyone can easily make it at home.

The name Trilece is also about how it's made. "Tri" means three and "lece" means milk in Spanish. Three different types of milk, namely buffalo milk, goat milk and cow milk, are used to make trilece. The combination of these three types of milk makes trilece taste excellent.

Trilece mainly includes eggs, flour, milk, sugar and vanilla. A perfect trilece is possible only with these ingredients. 

Ingredients:

Cake:

4 large-sized eggs

1 drinking cup of granulated sugar

1 drinking cup of flour

1 tea cup of starch

1 tea cup of milk

1 tea cup of oil

1 pack of vanilla

1 pack of baking powder

Syrup:

1 drinking cup of milk

1 drinking cup of granulated sugar

1 drinking cup of water

1 tablespoon of vanilla extract

 

Cream:

2 drinking cups of milk

1 drinking cup of granulated sugar

2 tablespoons of flour

2 tablespoons of starch

2 large-sized egg yolks

1 pack of vanilla

1 tablespoon of butter

Topping:

1 drinking cup of cream

How to Make Trilece at Home?

You can fascinate your guests and bless their palates with the practical trilece recipe that can be easily made at home. Here is how to make trilece:

  1. For the cake, whisk the eggs and granulated sugar in a deep bowl until the mixer becomes foamy.
  2. Add oil and milk into the mixture and continue whisking.
  3. Add the flour, starch, vanilla and baking powder and whisk the mixture together.
  4. Pour the cake mixture into a pre-greased baking dish and bake in the preheated oven at 180°C for approximately 25-30 minutes. You can test the cake with a toothpick.
  5. For the milk syrup, mix and boil milk, granulated sugar, water and vanilla in a saucepan. After boiling the syrup mixture for a few minutes, take the saucepan from the stove and let it cool. 
  6. For the cream, mix milk, granulated sugar, flour and starch in a separate saucepan. Cook it on medium heat by constantly stirring until it thickens.
  7. Mix vanilla and butter into the cooked cream. After the cream thickens, take the saucepan from the stove and let it cool.
  8. Remove the cooled cake from the baking dish and put it on a flat service plate.
  9. Pour the syrup over the cake and then let the cake rest for a while until it completely absorbs the milk syrup.
  10. After the cake absorbs the syrup, spread the cream on it and smooth the cream with a spatula.
  11. Put trilece in the refrigerator for a few hours to let it cool. This will make trilece even more delicious.
  12. Cut it into slices and serve it after it cools, and enjoy the savory trilece.
